LG Chem said Tuesday it has developed RESU 6.4 EX, a residential energy storage unit (RESU) upgraded from the RESU 5.0 the company introduced two years ago. LG Chem said it will start selling the product this month in Europe and Australia.
The basic capacity of the energy storage system (ESS) is 6.4 kilowatt-hours, but can be doubled by adding two ESSs. That would be enough to supply a family of four in Europe for about a month, according to LG Chem.
The company added that the product is 50 percent lighter and 25 percent smaller than the 2013 model. It will be unveiled at 2015 Intersolar Europe Wednesday through Friday in Munich.
