Wolseong 1, whose operations have been suspended since 2012 due to the expiration of its operating license, went back on line Tuesday, according to Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP).
The nuclear reactor located near Nae-ri, Yangnm-myeon, Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang, was expected to be fully operational by this morning.
Wolseong 1, the first pressurized deuterium reactor in Korea, restarted after 100 days of comprehensive maintenance.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) approved its continued operation on Feb. 27 under standards for nuclear reactors that were strengthened in the aftermath of the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
KHNP’s safety assessment reports have been available to the public since June 17.
