Doubleheaders, Monday games for rained-on KBO

The rain is becoming a headache for the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO). On Sunday, all five games were cancelled because of the weather.

The KBO is likely to schedule Monday games and some doubleheaders to complete the season on time. So far, 55 league games have been postponed because of bad weather.

The league’s worst, the KT Wiz, might feel the worst about Sunday’s cancellations because they missed an opportunity to sweep the defending champion and league No. 1 Samsung Lions at home. The Suwon-based Wiz notched seven wins and two losses with a team batting average of .347 in July, both the best monthly records in the KBO.

The Wiz, however, will face a tough challenge this week when they face the Doosan Bears. The Wiz hasn’t won a single game against the Bears this season, going zero for seven.

The Kia Tigers will come back to play at its home field, Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, this week after the stadium was used for the Summer Universiade.

The Tigers desperately want to end its four-game losing streak when it faces the LG Twins beginning Tuesday. The Tigers had only two wins in their 10 games in July.

The KBO will have only weekday games this week. On Friday, the All-Star Game weekend begins at the Suwon KT Wiz Park with a home-run contest. The Dream All-Stars and the Nanum All-Stars clash on Saturday.
