SK Telecom pushes joint work with Intel on 5G technology

SK Telecom extended its strategic collaboration with Intel on 5G-enabling technologies, the company announced Wednesday.

The two companies will develop and verify 5G device prototypes as well as key 5G technologies including Anchor-Booster Cell, a technology that provides seamless transmission of large data via a combination of LTE networks and WiGig, which is a next generation wireless LAN, and Massive MIMO (Multiple-input multiple-output), which is a multiple antenna technology that enhances base station capacity for both receiving and transmitting data, to ultimately pave a path to 5G commercialization.

SK Telecom added that this year it will be setting up a 5G test bed at the company’s research and development center in Bundang, Gyeonggi.

The signing ceremony took place during the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai which senior executives of both companies attended.
