Park plans a Blue House ‘staycation’

President Park Geun-hye will stay in the presidential residence during her summer vacation next week, the Blue House said Friday.
“The president will have her vacation from Monday to Friday next week,” Min Kyung-wook, Blue House spokesman, said Friday. “As far as I know, she doesn’t have any special trips planned. She will rest and think about state affairs.”
During her first presidential vacation, Park visited Jeo Island in Geoje, South Gyeongsang, in 2013, where she spent her holidays in her childhood with the late President Park Chung Hee.
Last year, however, she stayed at the Blue House in the aftermath of the tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry.
Park’s cabinet members will also spend their summer vacations in Korea as part of a government campaign to boost domestic consumption.
Earlier this month, Park expressed concerns about the sluggish economy and ordered her aides to start the campaign to encourage domestic tourism.
Last week, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-an urged ministers and civil servants to refrain from going overseas for summer vacations. Many ministers scheduled holidays in Seoul.
