Ryu picked as candidate for IOC athlete member

The Korea Olympic Committee (KOC) said Thursday that table tennis star Ryu Seung-min is its final candidate for the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Ryu, 33, will aim to succeed Moon Dae-sung who is currently a member of the IOC’s Athletes’ Commission. Ryu has competed in the past four Summer Games and won gold in the men’s single in 2004. He also has a bronze medal from 2008 and silver from 2012 for the men’s team events.

Ryu is Korea’s IOC-proposed member candidate along with weight lifter Jang Mi-ran and shooter Jin Jong-oh.
