Kang notches 10th home run for Pirates
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Kang Jung-ho launched his 10th home run of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Wednesday (Korean time).Kang, who started as the team’s fifth batter in the line up, went 2-for-7 with one RBI. He maintains a season average of .285 in Major League Baseball.
Kang, 28, did not produce hits in his first two battings but made his first single in the fifth inning. In the seventh, when the team was leading 7-3, he delivered a single shot to the left against Diamondbacks right-hander Josh Collmenter.
It was Kang’s 10th home run of the season since he launched his ninth on Aug. 10 against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
But Kang, the MLB rookie coming from the Nexen Heroes in the Korea Baseball Organization, made a fatal defense error in the ninth, which eventually pushed his team to play extra innings as he failed to clear Ender Inciarte’s grounder.
Kang tried to wash off his mistake but was struck out in the 12th and was grounded out to second in the 14th. However, the Pirates won 9-8.
