Aug 19,2015Conglomerates are joining the government-led campaign to hire young workers./ 대기업들이 청년 일자리 창출을 위한 정부 주도의 캠페인에 동참하고 있다/ Hyundai Motor Group announced a bold plan to increase the number of new employees to 15,000 this year - 1,000 more than in last year - depending on whether the peak wage system pushed by the Park Geun-hye administration to share jobs with the young generation settles down./ 현대 자동차 그룹은 박근혜 정부가 밀어 붙이고 있는 임금피크제 정착 여부에 따라 젊은 세대와 일자리를 공유하기 위해 지난해보다 1,000명이 많은 15,000명의 새로운 일자리를 올 해 늘린다는 야심찬 계획을 발표했다/ On Aug. 17, Samsung Group joined the march by vowing to create a total of 30,000 new jobs through a 100 billion won ($84.6 million) investment over two years./ 8월 17일 삼성그룹은 앞으로 2년간 1000억원의 투자를 통해 새로운 일자리 총 30,000개를 창출하겠다고 약속했다/ Samsung’s plan includes the creation of 17,000 jobs through vocational training and internships plus 13,000 more by reinforcing its existing job programs./ 삼성의 계획은 직업훈련과 인턴십을 통해 17,000개의 일자리를 창출하고 기존의 일자리 프로그램을 강화하여 추가로 13,000개의 일자리를 추가적으로 늘린다는 것이다/
After pledging to hire 24,000 new employees last month, SK has come up with an additional plan to invest a whopping 46 trillion won to find a new growth engine for the third-largest business group in Korea./ 지난 달 24,000개의 새로운 일자리 창출을 약속했던 SK는 한국의 3대 그룹에 걸맞게 새로운 성장엔진을 찾기 위해 거액인 46조의 투자 계획을 추가로 내놓았다/ LG Display also announced an investment plan amounting to 10 trillion won by 2018./ LG 디스플레이 또한 2018년 까지 10조원의 투자계획을 발표했다/ Earlier, Hanwha Group promised to hire 17,569 workers by 2017, and the embattled Lotte Group 24,000 employees by 2018 - in response to the president urging heads of conglomerates to resolve the alarming jobless rate among the young generation at a Blue House meeting last month./ 앞서 한화그룹은 2017년 까지 17,569명을 고용하기로 약속을 했고 롯데그룹은 2018년 까지 24,000명의 고용을 약속했는데 이는 지난 달 청와대에서 있은 청년 일자리 문제를 해결하기 위한 간담회에서 대기업 총수들에게 대통령이 촉구한 화답으로 나온 것이다/
Our young generation’s unemployment is one of the most pressing issues in our society:/ 청년 실업은 우리 사회에서 최우선적인 현안 중의 하나다/ The government’s official jobless figure exceeded the 10 percent ceiling long ago./ 정부의 공식적인 청년 실업율은 오래전에 10퍼센트를 초과했다/ But if you include those who gave up finding jobs, the rate soars to 23 percent./ 그러나 구직 단념자까지 포함할 경우 실업율은 23퍼센트를 상회한다/ The 1.1 million-strong army of youth without jobs casts a dark shadow over our economy./ 110만명의 청년 백수는 우리 경제에 어두운 그림자를 드리우고 있다/ The young generation is primarily human capital for our society./ 청년은 우리 사회를 위한 주요한 인적 자본이다/ If they break down, Korea has no future./ 만약 청년이 무너지면 한국의 미래도 없다/
Conglomerates have been under fire for their stingy investments in creating new jobs, even when they have been sitting on piles of cash./ 대기업들은 현금을 쌓아둘 뿐 일자리 창출을 위한 투자에 인색하다는 비판을 받아왔다/ Fortunately, they have rolled up their sleeves in unison - albeit half-willingly - to help ease the deepening pain of our young generation by promising massive investment./ 다행스럽게도 대기업이 비록 자의반 타의반이라도 막대한 투자를 약속함으로써 청년의 심각한 고통을 들어주겠다고 팔을 걷어붙인 것은 바람직한 일이다/ But there are limits to the corporate sector’s ability to hire workers, as seen in the belt-tightening efforts by Samsung and Hyundai to cut the salaries of their executives./ 그러나 삼성과 현대자동차가 임원의 월급을 깎는 허리띠를 졸라매는 노력에서도 알 수 있듯이 기업이 노동자를 고용하는 데는 한계가 있다/
That’s why the government and political circles must help big business groups create full-time jobs instead of part-time jobs./ 정부와 정치권이 대기업 그룹들이 파트타임 일자리 대신에 풀타임 일자리를 창출할 수 있도록 지원을 해야 하는 이유다/ They must quickly ease various regulations on doing business in Seoul and the metropolitan area, reach a grand consensus on the introduction of the peak wage system with labor and management, and pass bills aimed at rejuvenating our supine economy./ 정부와 정치권은 하루 빨리 수도권에서 기업을 할 수 있도록 다양한 규제를 완화해야 하며 노사가 임금피크제 도입에 대 타협을 해야 하며 침체된 우리 경제를 회생시키기 위한 법안을 통과시켜야 할 것이다/
