The K-League said on Wednesday it punished Jeju United forward Kang Soo-il with a 10-game suspension and 5 million won ($4,220) fine for his drunk driving accident last week.
While serving his six-month suspension for doping, Kang was charged for driving under the influence and trying to cover up the accident by telling police his friend, also in the car, had been the driver.
The K-League said that Kang’s new suspension will be applied once he finishes his existing suspension.
The 28-year-old, born to a Korean mother and American father, is currently placed on the restricted list by Jeju, which means he cannot play for or join any other team without Jeju’s permission.
Kang’s six-month ban from the Korea Football Association is applied retroactively from June 11, when his positive test result was announced. Kang blames the positive test on a mustache-growing cream.
