Haru Nomura wins her first KLPGA tour event

Kim Dae-hyun, 27, won the Maeil Dairies Open on Sunday to collect his second KPGA Korean Tour victory.

At the Yuseong Country Club in Daejeon, Kim hit 6-under 66 in the final round and finished the event at 21-under 267. He edged Hwang Jung-gon and Lee Ji-hoon by two strokes. Kim, whose last victory in the tour was in the 2012 Munsingwear Match Play Championship, will earn 60 million won ($50,000).

Meanwhile, in the KLPGA Tour, Japan’s Haru Nomura beat Bae Seon-woo in the extra hole to win the Hanwha Finance Classic at the Golden Bay Golf & Resort in Taean, South Chungcheong.

Nomura got 300 million won for her victory. She was playing in her first KLPGA Tour event.



Kim, Lee maintain prize money rankings in Japan

Kim Kyung-tae collected his third victory of the season in the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO), while Lee Bo-mee had her fourth of the season on the JLPGA Tour as they stay atop in the prize money rankings.

At the Fujisankei Classic held at Fujizakura Country Club in Yamanashi, Japan, Kim finished the event at 9-under 275, beating compatriot Lee Kyoung-hoon by a stroke. Kim now has eight wins in the Japanese tour, where he debuted in 2008.

Lee won two weeks in a row in Japan by winning the Golf5 Ladies Tournament on Sunday. At the Mizunami Country Club in Gifu, Japan, Lee beat Misuzu Narita in the extra hole after the two were tied at 11-under 205.



BASEBALL

Korea finishes in third place at U-18 World Cup

Korea finished third in the 27th World Baseball Softball Confederation U-18 Baseball World Cup after beating Australia 8-5 at the Maishima Baseball Stadium in Osaka, Japan, on Sunday.

Korea had five straight victories in the qualifying round but couldn’t overcome the United States and Japan in the second round.



BASKETBALL

Women’s team secures spot at Olympics tourney

The Korean women’s team finished third at the FIBA Asia Women’s Championship on Saturday and secured its spot at the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

In the third-place game in Wuhan, China, Korea beat Chinese Taipei 52-45 thanks to Kim Dan-bi, who scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
