SK wants to connect to LG and Samsung home appliances

Top carrier SK Telecom said Monday it is discussing with both Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics launching a new service that will link and control various home electronics devices.

The machines include air conditioners, washing machines and robot vacuum cleaners. A smartphone app will remotely control them. The service is scheduled to begin early next year and air purifiers will be added to the portfolio later.

SK Telecom will be responsible for connecting the cloud servers of the appliance producers with its own Smart Home server, which takes advantage of Internet of Things technology. The new service signals that products from Korea’s two largest appliance producers will be controlled under a unified platform - an unprecedented step forward for the Internet of Things in Korea.
