Debut iKON single tops music charts

The latest single from YG Entertainment’s new boy band iKON has topped eight major music charts, including Melon, Genie and Mnet.

Upon its release on Sept. 15, “My Type” has garnered many fans, which is especially meaningful as it is the group’s debut single.

Along with the track, the music video also grabbed the public’s attention. In the clip, the seven members of the group each showcase their unique talents.

The boy group’s following also extends to various foreign countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

The band will continue their musical career by unveiling a mini album, “Debut Half Album ‘Welcome Back,’” with six new songs on Oct. 1.

On Nov. 2, iKON will release a full album, “Debut Full Album ‘Welcome Back,’” with 12 tracks.

The group is scheduled to stage a debut concert, “Showtime,” on Oct. 3 at Olympic Gymnasium in southern Seoul.

Even though the latest song was their first official track, the members were already known by the public for their appearance in the audition program “Mix & Match” (2014). A few of the members also appeared in various other TV programs. Rapper Bobby, for example, was a huge hit last year after winning the hip-hop survival audition program “Show Me the Money 3.”
