Psy starts evicting building tenants

Singer Psy of “Gangnam Style” fame began evicting the tenants of his building in Hannam-dong, central Seoul, Monday morning, according to the celebrity’s attorney.

“As an enforcement document has been given out by the court, [Psy] is taking justified legal measures,” the attorney said. “Bailiffs from the court are formally taking legal procedures and even the police forces have taken part in the process upon request.”

According to a representative of Psy, the compulsory evictions will be suspended if tenants pay the deposit, but the tenants are demanding the evictions be suspended without providing deposit slips that prove their payments.

Tenants who attempted to physically prevent evictions at the site have been handed over to the police for obstruction of justice.

The world-famous singer has been embroiled in a conflict with the tenants of his building, who are mostly artists who use the building as their workspace. There are a number of technical and legal issues surrounding the fight and the contract.

While the artists don’t want to leave, Psy reportedly wishes to renovate the building. He filed an eviction suit against the tenants last November.
