Gong Cha Korea opens its first franchise in Tokyo

Gong Cha Korea, a milk tea franchise with 350 shops in Korea, has opened its first Japanese branch in Harajuku, Tokyo.

The opening is the first overseas business since the branch obtained the franchise license from Gong Cha in Taiwan. The ‘Harajuku Omotesando branch’ located near the intersection point at Harajuku began operating from September 27.

Gong Cha, originally from Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, started its business in 2006. Since then business expanded to 19 countries including United States, China and Singapore establishing over 1,100 international branches. The brand entered Korea in 2011. “From operation of the franchise to new product development, design and marketing, the Korean style of business management has earned recognition,” an official from Gong Cha Korea explained.
