Exo’s Lay, f(x)’s Krystal pair up for film

Lay of the boy band Exo and Krystal of the girl group f(x) will pair up in an upcoming Chinese film.

According to an exclusive report by local daily newspaper Munhwa Ilbo on Wednesday, the two recently landed lead roles for a Chinese film tentatively entitled “Bi Yeon.”

The report said the film is a joint project between Korea and China.

A Korean filmmaker will take the helm while a Chinese production company will invest in the film. In addition, the newspaper said the production company believes Lay, who is Chinese, will bring much-needed attention to the film when it is released in the mainland.

The main location for the film will be China, but the report added that about 40 percent of the film will be shot in Korea.

The film will center on young people who realize their dreams through dancing.

Both Lay and Krystal debuted as singers, but they have been pursuing acting careers on and off.

Lay broke into the music scene in 2012 as a member of the 10-member boy band Exo, and Krystal started her career in 2009 as a member of the girl group f(x).
