Kim Hyun-joong to take Army leave

Singer-actor Kim Hyun-joong, who joined the Army in May, will take his first leave sometime this month.

A person close to the celebrity told Ilgan Sports, an affiliate of the Korea JoongAng Daily, on Wednesday that Kim, who is currently in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend, will take some time off from his mandatory duties.

Unlike ordinary soldiers who take their first leave 100 days after their enlistment, Kim put off his first leave in September because he was in the spotlight amid a scandal involving his ex.

But it is unknown whether he will publicly comment on the ongoing legal battle with his ex-lover.

The former girlfriend of Kim, who is surnamed Choi, sued him for domestic violence last August, and Kim was ordered to pay fines totaling 5 million won ($4,360).

But Choi filed another lawsuit against Kim in May and requested 1.6 billion won in damages. Choi said she had a miscarriage because of Kim’s violence before she gave birth to Kim’s child in September.

Meanwhile, Kim said he would be responsible for the child if a paternity test confirms the child is his.

The fourth trial between Kim and Choi is set for Oct. 30.

Kim debuted as a member of the K-pop boy band SS501 in 2005, but he later released solo albums and began a career in acting, too.
