Shin Min-a donates 1 billion won to charity

Actress Shin Min-a reportedly donated a total of 1 billion won ($884,000) over the past seven years.

According to local charities Community Chest of Korea and Good Friends, the actress gave about 700 million won to the Community Chest and 300 million won to Good Friends.

The actress wanted to help North Korean defectors, single parents and seniors who live alone.

“Most celebrities donate just once, but she’s been donating for seven years, and we highly appreciate her for doing that,” a Community Chest official told the Kookmin Ilbo, a local daily newspaper, on Thursday.

The charity says Shin has been donating 2 million won every month since 2007.

Shin also donated 100 million won to the Nepal earthquake relief effort earlier this year.

Having debuted as a fashion model in 1998 at age 14, Shin has been appearing in drama series and films. Some of her hits include “My Love, My Bride” (2014) and “My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox” (2010).

Shin is currently shooting a new drama series, “Oh My Venus,” with actor So Ji-sub. The new drama series will begin airing on Nov. 16.
