Exo riding high in Japan market

Boy group Exo’s debut Japanese single “Love Me Right, Romantic Universe,” released on Nov. 4 in Japan, was No. 1 on the Oricon Singles Chart for five consecutive days as of Sunday.

The single sold more than 60,000 copies in Japan on the day of its release.

The Oricon Singles Chart is a major gauge of a group’s popularity in the Japanese market.

After the release of the digital single, Exo launched a concert tour in Japan. The 10-member boy group has finished two concerts in Fukuoka and Tokyo already.

Three days of concerts are scheduled in Osaka between Nov. 13 and 15.

Having debuted in 2012, Exo, which has Korean and Chinese members, has set numerous records.

Exo’s debut album “XOXO” reached the one million sales mark in December 2013. It was the first Korean group to hit that milestone in more than a decade as music lovers mostly rely on streaming music files now rather than purchasing CDs.

The boy group held the first K-pop concert at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro District, western Seoul attracting about 22,000 fans.
