Nov 18,2015

Do they really deserve the respect they so ardently demand?/ 과연 이처럼 과격하게 요구하는 사람들이 정말 존경받을 수 있을까?/ We are dumbfounded at their attempt to find fault with the police’s “overreaction” even after turning the place into a state of anarchy./ 광화문 일대를 무법천지로 만들어 놓고 경찰의 과잉진압을 트집 잡는 것에 어처구니가 없을 뿐이다/ The ferocious protest left 113 policemen injured and 50 police buses destroyed or severely damaged./ 이날 격렬한 시위로 113명의 경찰관이 부상을 입고 경찰차량 50대가 파괴되거나 심각하게 부서졌다/

The Jogyesa temple should reconsider its decision to offer him refuge./ 조계사는 한 위원장에게 은신처를 제공해주기로 한 결정을 재검토해보아야 한다/ Korea is no longer in the age when religious facilities served as refuges for democracy activists, as in the authoritarian days three decades ago./ 한국은 더 이상 종교 시설이 30년 전 독재 시절처럼 민주 운동가들을 위한 은신처 역할을 하는 시대는 아니다/ Critics of the Park Geun-hye government attack it for “a return to dictatorship.”/ 박근혜 정부를 비판하는 사람들은 유신독재 정권으로의 회기라고 공격한다/ But Han cannot be categorized as a democracy fighter./ 하지만 한 위원장은 민주투사로 분류할 수는 없다/ He is a shameless, irresponsible and aristocratic labor leader who chose to flee from his “battleground” after nonchalantly instructing his followers to march toward the Blue House./ 한 위원장은 자신을 따르는 사람들에게는 청와대를 향해 진격하라고 무턱대고 지시하고는 “싸움터”에서 도망간 파렴치하고 무책임한 귀족 노조 지도자일 뿐이다/ Do Buddhist circles need such a troublemaker?/ 불교계가 그런 문제아를 두둔할 필요가 있을까?/ The opposition, too, must not turn a blind eye to the unfettered spree of violence./ 야당 역시 안하무인격인 폭력에 눈을 감아버려서는 안 된다/

As the prime minister said yesterday, the government must not allow such outmoded protests any more./ 어제 총리가 말했듯이 정부는 더 이상 쓸데없는 시위를 허락해서는 안 된다/ The government must hold accountable those responsible for violence or infringing on others’ rights to pursue happiness./ 정부는 타인의 행복 추구권을 방해하거나 폭력을 행사할 경우 그 책임을 엄중히 물어야 할 것이다/ The government must bring Han and his followers to justice no matter what./ 정부는 한 위원장과 그 추종자들을 어떠한 일이 있어도 법정에 세워야 할 것이다/
