SK Telecom and Qualcomm collaborate on 5G researchSK Telecom said Sunday it will cooperate with Qualcomm in 5G technology development, including making a 5G prototype mobile device.
The company said it held a strategic meeting at the company’s headquarters in Euljiro, central Seoul, on Friday and shared ideas on developing the prototype for 5G phones, which will be used to test the 5G network of the future.
The two companies have been working together for years in mobile communications, commercializing code division multiple access in 1996, and also cooperating in LTE and LTE-A network commercialization.
“Our goal is to launch the trial service for 5G in 2018, which will be first in the world if realized,” a spokesman for SK Telecom said.
