Kim Jun-su and Hani are dating
A local online news agency on Friday published paparazzi photos of the two out and about in Seoul, after which the agencies representing the two confirmed the news.
“After the hit song ‘Up and Down,’ Hani didn’t know how to deal with all the sudden changes, but Jun-su gave her guidance and they naturally developed a romantic relationship,” Yedang Entertainment, which represents Hani, said in a press release.
Hani and her bandmates instantly soared to nationwide stardom in October 2014 after a video file of them dancing to their track “Up and Down” went viral.
Before the video, which was recorded by an EXID fan, went public on YouTube, the group was on the verge of breaking up.
However, “Up and Down” went on to climb online music charts and eventually topped almost all the online and TV music charts in December 2014, four months after its original release.
No K-pop group has ever experienced such a Cinderella success story in Korea’s fast-paced music industry. Once a song fails to catch attention upon its release, a group’s chances of making it big substantially decrease.
Kim and Hani have reportedly been dating over the past six months and often watch musicals together.
The two met at a performance of the musical “Death Note,” in which Kim played the male lead. Hani reportedly attended one of the shows, staged between June and August last year, and the two exchanged greetings backstage.
Kim debuted as a member of the K-pop boy band TVXQ in 2004 but left the group with fellow bandmates Park Yoo-chun and Kim Jae-joong in 2009 to form JYJ in 2010.
Since then, Kim has appeared in a number of musicals.
