GS Retail, operator of the convenience store chain, inked a partnership with local mobile carrier LG U+ to carry the Y6, currently the cheapest smartphone on sale in Korea, the company said Wednesday.
After customers enter their phone number at a GS25 store, the information is sent to LG U+ for further consulting and order registration. The phone is then delivered by parcel service to customers. The regular price of the Y6 is 154,000 won ($126.70). However, customers can purchase the phone for almost nothing, with subsidies provided by LG U+ depending on the calling plan and additional discounts offered by each GS25 store.
Despite its low price, the Y6 offers top-tier features such as a 5-inch HD display, 1 gigabyte of RAM, a panorama camera and face-recognition technology. The Y6 also allows its customers to make free phone calls when connected to Wi-Fi.
