Korean Wave actor Jang Keun-suk will appear in the upcoming period drama “Daebak,” his first television series since “Pretty Man” aired between 2013 and 2014.
In the show, set during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), Jang plays Young-su, who was born into a lower-class family and ends up confronting King Yeongjo, played by Yeo Jin-goo, over the throne.
“I spent the past two years looking back on myself, and I hope I can turn a second chapter in my acting career with ‘Daebak,’” Jang said in a press release on Friday.
The 29-year-old began acting at age 5 and is one of few child actors to make a smooth transition into an acting career as an adult.
Jang has appeared in a number of hit drama series and films, including “Love Rain” (2012), “You’re My Pet” (2011) and “You’re Beautiful” (2009).
The actor is often referred to as the Asian prince due to his immense popularity in Japan and China.
“Daebak” is scheduled to begin airing in March as a 24-episode drama series.
Jang is currently hosting the reality TV show “Produce 101,” an audition program in which 101 trainees from 46 local entertainment agencies compete for 11 final spots.
