LS Cable & System has signed a contract with BAIC Motor Corporation to supply the Chinese automaker high voltage battery cable harness for electric vehicles, the company said Wednesday. The parts from LS Cable will be installed in the BAIC Motors’ new electric car model, EV200, to be launched in coming August. Through the new deal with the state-run automaker, the cable maker is looking to expand its share of 6 percent in the Chinese harness market to over 10 percent by 2020. The company had also inked contracts with China’s No.1 electric carmaker BYD and second runner Dongfeng Motor for supplying auto parts. The harness distributes power and delivers signals to control various electronic parts of a car. While 12 volt harnesses are used for general cars, higher-voltage harnesses are used in electric cars.
