Convenient lunch-box meals popular for holiday season

Sales of lunch-box meals sold at convenience stores during the holidays have continued to grow. The increase comes as the number of single-person households grows every year.

Sales of lunch-box meals during the Lunar New Year and Chuseok, or Korean thanksgiving, rose 45 percent last year from the previous year. In 2014, sales saw a 24.3 percent increase from 2013, according to BGF Retail, operator of convenience store chain CU, on Friday.

Sales of other prepackaged foods and ramen also rose 30.2 percent and 12.7 percent each last year. BGF Retail said the trend came about as many single people now stay home instead of attend family gatherings during the holidays.
