An’s win in Germany makes him top ranked in world

South Korea’s ace judoka An Baul has become the world’s top-ranked player in the 66kg (145 lbs) division.

In the International Judo Federation world ranking list announced on Tuesday, An toppled Davaadorj Tumurkhuleg of Mongolia after receiving a total score of 2,400. An’s win at the Judo Grand Prix Dusseldorf 2016 in Germany on Jan. 20 gave him 300 points and the edge in ranking.

With An grabbing the No. 1 position, Korea’s national team now has four top ranking jodokas, Kim Won-jin in 60kg, An Chang-rim in 73kg and Gwak Dong-han in 90kg.

Djokovic one match away from 700th win in singles

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Playing his first match since winning the Australian Open, top-seeded Novak Djokovic beat Tommy Robredo of Spain 6-1, 6-2 on Monday in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Djokovic’s victory brought him one match away from his 700th career singles match win. “Every milestone is very special,’’ Djokovic said. “I wish that I make the 700th win in this tournament.’’

Also Monday, Chung Hyeon of South Korea beat 39th-ranked Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-3, 6-4.
