FOOTBALL

Goyang, Anyang Challenge match ends in scoreless tie

Goyang Zaicro FC tied 0-0 with FC Anyang yesterday at home in a first round match of the K-League Challenge.

Goyang started off the game in a 4-4-2 formation with Kim Sang-jun and Lee Yea-chan in the front. Although Goyang had nine shot attempts, the team’s shots on target remained low at two, indicating the ineffectiveness of its attacks.

Goyang will play Ansan Mugunghwa FC on April 3 at Ansan Wa Stadium in the second round of the K-League Challenge.

Chungju Hummel FC also tied yesterday in the K-League Challenge match with Seoul E-Land FC at 0-0. Chungju’s offensive effort far outpaced Seoul with 12 shot attempts with six on target. However, despite their relentless attempt to clinch their first win of the season, Chungju was unable to finish its shots.

Chungju is scheduled to host Bucheon FC 1995 on April 3 as well.

The K-League Challenge is the second tier league of the Korean football league after K-League Classic, which had a by-week last week.

Park named as part of Twins roster for opening game

Park Byung-ho of Minnesota Twins has been registered on the 25-man roster for the team’s opening match during the first week of April.

According to MLB.com, the Twins have finalized the roster for the 13 players including the catchers, infielders and outfielders. Park’s name was listed among the eight infielders. Besides Park, some of the notable names in the infielders’ list include Brian Dozier, Joe Mauer, Trevor Plouffe and Miguel Sano. Park Byung-ho is likely to play on first base for the Twins.

According to the Twins general manager Terry Ryan, unless something unexpected occurs, there will not be any changes to the roster. ?

Lee Dae-ho of the Seattle Mariners still waits an announcement from the team. Lee played in the preseason game yesterday against the Los Angeles Dodgers as a designated hitter going 1-for-4 with a .250 batting average. If Lee is excluded from the Mariners 40-man roster he has a choice to initiate the opt-out clause in his contract to become a free agent. Lee has recorded 1 home run, 4 runs batted in and 10 runs scored in the MLB preseason so far.
