Dongbu announces it has produced 100M microwaves

Dongbu Daewoo Electronics said on Wednesday it has produced over 100 million microwaves since it began rolling them out in August 1985.

That is the largest accumulated volume for a single product ever rolled out by the country’s third-largest consumer electronics company.

Once part of the now-defunct Daewoo Group, the company was one of the top three microwave producer in the world by the early 2000s. Its market share in Europe shot up to as much as 27 percent.

The company came up with the industry’s first microwave embedded with an ultraviolet sterilization feature and it has differentiated itself from bigger tech giants with smaller appliances targeting single households in recent years, including a 15-liter microwave unveiled in 2010.

“We have borne meaningful fruit by making efforts to differentiate and stabilize production capacity,” said a company spokesman. “We will continue producing beloved products.”
