AOA to star in live-stream program

Not only did it lead to the birth of successful content genres like meokbang (eating shows), but the format itself, by enabling real-time two-way communication, was adopted by the traditional TV channel MBC to create the popular program “My Little Television.”
Now, a cable channel specializing in fashion and beauty - OnStyle from the entertainment giant CJ E&M - has jumped on the live-stream bandwagon as well.
The beauty content provider, catering to young female viewers, has many popular TV shows like “Project Runway Korea” and “Challenge Supermodel.”
OnStyle, at a preview event Tuesday at CJ E&M Center in Digital Media City, western Seoul, announced the launch of its first-ever live-stream show, “Channel AOA,” starring all members of AOA.
AOA is a nearly four-year-old K-pop girl group whose members are highly active in the entertainment scene. Seolhyun’s likeness can easily be spotted in advertisements nationwide. Choa and Jimin, who frequently appear on entertainment programs, also have live-stream experience from their past appearances on “My Little Television.”
“There is the right talent for every broadcasting producer,” said producer Lee Joon-seok on why the channel chose the group. “AOA was the one for me.”
Prior to the live session at 7 p.m. every Tuesday, AOA members will be assigned a theme or mission with which they are to make their own videos.
Three to five videos prerecorded by the singers will be unveiled before the live session, and the members and fans will watch and talk about them during the show.
The singer who has the video with the most hits is the winner of the episode.
On the live sessions, which will be available via tving, Channel V and TVcast, AOA will greet and interact with fans in real time.
A 15-minute video revealed at the beginning of the press conference showed members of AOA splitting into two groups. Under the theme of deviating from their usual routine, the group including Choa drove to a restaurant while the other three including Jimin headed to the movies.
Some of the potential themes for future episodes that were mentioned at the event were meokbang, deductive reasoning and vocational experience.
The reality element of the stream and the themes were reminiscent of the perennially loved reality show “Infinite Challenge.”
Following the live session at 7 p.m., behind-the-scenes footage of the prerecorded videos will air on OnStyle.
“Channel AOA” is the third entertainment program solely dedicated to the group.
“On previous entertainment shows, I recall us being nervous and not talking much,” Choa said when asked about the difference between “Channel AOA” and other shows. “However, I believe we have matured enough to bring life into ‘Channel AOA.’”
Meanwhile, Seolhyun expressed her excitement to finally be able to spend time with all her fellow group members.
