Apr 20,2016It is shameful that some Korean netizens are posting disgraceful messages on the Internet following the Thursday — and ongoing — large-scale earthquakes in Kumamoto, Japan./ 일본 구마모토에서 발생하여 진행 중인 대규모 지진에 대해서 지난 목요일부터 인터넷 상에 일부 한국 네티즌들이 악성 댓글을 달고 있는 것은 참으로 부끄러운 일이다
They claim that Korea must not help Japan because it tries to distort history instead of thanking Koreans who rolled up their sleeves to collect donations for the Japanese, whose lives were totally devastated by the cataclysmic earthquake and tsunami of 2011./ 이들은 2011년 대지진과 쓰나미가 닥쳐 완전히 폐허가 되었을 때 일본인들을 위해 팔을 걷어붙이고 성금을 모아줬는데도 일본은 고마워하기는커녕 과거역사를 왜곡하려 하니 절대 다시 도와줘서는 안 된다고 주장하고 있다
Some netizens even clamor for providing aid to Ecuador — instead of Japan — which was also battered by recent massive earthquakes on the other side of the Ring of Fire./ 일부 네티즌들은 심지어 일본이 아니라 저편 환태평양화산대에 놓여 최근 막대한 지진피해를 입은 에콰도르를 지원해줘야 한다고 목소리를 높이고 있다
This is an utterly deplorable development./ 이것은 완전히 당치도 않은 비약이다/ It is true that Seoul-Tokyo relations have rapidly deteriorated since 2011, when the magnitude 9.0 undersea earthquake hit Japan.

Surely, Koreans did not collect donations for the Japanese at the time of the Tohoku earthquake to hear Japan express their gratitude to us./ 확실한 것은 도호쿠 지진이 일어났을 때 일본인들의 감사 표현을 듣기 위해서 한국인들이 성금을 모금한 것은 아니었다는 것이다
We must make efforts to enhance the dignity and happiness of humankind irrespective of race and nationality — particularly in times of natural disasters./ 우리는 인종과 국적에 상관없이 인류의 존엄과 행복을 향상시키기 위해 노력해야 하고 특히나 자연재앙이 일어났을 때 더 그렇다
Even when enemies are injured in the middle of war, soldiers treat them./ 심지어 전쟁 중에 적군이 부상을 입으면 그들을 치료해 주는 것이 그렇다/ That’s the spirit of humanity./ 그것이 인도주의 정신이다/ Koreans must help their close neighbors in distress./ 한국인들은 비탄에 빠져 있는 가까운 이웃을 도와야 한다
You can choose your friends, but not your neighbors./ 친구는 선택할 수 있어도 이웃은 선택할 수 없다
No matter how much hatred lingers in our hearts, Japan is a neighbor, and we must live together./ 우리 마음속에 아무리 미움이 많다하더라도 일본은 이웃이고 함께 살아가야 한다
Moreover, Japan is a country that shares democracy with us./ 더군다나 일본은 우리와 같은 민주주의를 공유하고 있는 나라다
That means both sides have many things in store for them to help each other with./ 그것은 다시 말해 서로 도울 일이 많다는 것을 의미한다
Hatred leads to hatred./ 혐오하는 마음은 혐오를 낳는다
The feelings of hostility and animosity clearly represented by our netizens’ posting of malicious messages only fuel Japanese people’s hatred toward Koreans./ 우리 네티즌들이 악의적인 댓글을 다는 것으로 확실하게 표출된 적개심과 증오심은 한국인에 대한 일본인들의 혐한을 부추길 뿐이다
Even though Japan sometimes behaves in a disappointing manner, we must scrap such a narrow-minded, exclusive and ethnocentric mind-set./ 비록 때로는 일본이 실망스러운 태도로 행동하더라도 우리는 옹졸하고 배타적인 민족주의를 버려야 한다
