Japanese ‘Misaeng’ remake in the works

The popular 2014 tvN drama that featured the lives of office workers, “Misaeng,” will be remade in Japan, CJ E&M announced Thursday.

CJ E&M at the Busan Contents Market on Wednesday signed a remake deal with the Japanese network Fuji TV.

“Misaeng” is a drama based on the webtoon series of the same name that featured the hard lives of company workers. The drama’s realistic story and satiric comments on society resonated with many people living during economically tough times.

“It is a first attempt by Fuji TV to remake a drama,” CJ E&M said. “The drama is already generating much excitement, with plans to air during a prime-time slot.”

The drama has already made some of the casting decisions, with Yuto Nakajima of the popular J-pop group Hey! Say! JUMP in line to star. He has been involved in many other Japanese dramas in the past.

The drama is slated to start shooting this month and begin airing on Sundays in July.
