New Malibu sedan sets sales record for Chevrolet
GM Korea’s new flagship Malibu sedan has set a sales of record of over 10,000 units in only eight business days after preorders began on April 27.The Chevrolet sedan has a body size larger than some full-size sedans and runs on a turbo engine, a technology about 2 million won ($1,700) more expensive than normal engines.
However, it was released at an entry price of 23.1 million won, 1 million won cheaper than its preceding model.
The cost efficiency of the model has boosted sales, threatening competitors such as Hyundai Motor’s Sonata and Renault Samsung Motors’ SM6.
To further expand the Malibu’s sales in Korea, the automaker plans a big marketing promotion starting from mid-May, which includes arranging about 500 cars nationwide for test drives.
