The drama will begin airing on SBS in November. It has been reported that the network decided to broadcast the series without knowing the story of the drama.
Most broadcasters review the initial scripts for the first or second episodes and the synopsis, which sums up the whole storyline and major characters, before they choose drama series.
But Kim Young-seob, the chief head of the drama department at SBS, told Yonhap News that “I read the synopsis [of ‘Legend of the Blue Sea’] on Monday, and there is no reason not to air this drama because it has a perfect combination.”
The drama will begin shooting in September.
“My Love from the Star” ended with a viewership rating of 28 percent in February 2014, and the drama’s immense popularity in China is credited for bringing more Chinese tourists into Korea.
Director Jin Hyuk, who directed “Doctor Stranger” (2014) and “Master’s Sun” (2013), will take the helm of the drama.
