‘Money’ participants to perform

Hip-hop producers from the survival audition program “Show Me the Money 5” and several of its participants will launch a concert after the program finishes, according to CJ E&M on Tuesday.

The upcoming performance is scheduled to take place Aug. 20 at Olympic Hall in Olympic Park, southeastern Seoul. The show’s producers including Simon Dominic and Zion.T, who judge participants on their rap skills, will be joined by a few popular participants on stage.

The audition program has garnered the attention of many viewers, with the four hip-hop tracks performed by the 16 rappers last week all topping several real-time music charts, ranking first through fourth.

Only 12 rappers have been chosen to remain, and they will appear in the upcoming episode airing at 11 p.m. on Friday.

The first season of “Show Me the Money” aired in 2012. Although the program is often criticized for the way it uses editing to make it appear as though participants are fighting with one another, others defend the program for playing a major role in popularizing hip-hop among many Koreans.
