Sept. 2 to Nov. 13: The hit Broadway musical returns after its successful Korean premiere in 2014. This humorous show tells the story of Charlie Price, who has to rejuvenate a shoe factory he inherited from his father. He targets a niche market - making men’s high heels.
“Kinky Boots” received Tony Awards and Olivier Awards after its 2013 world premiere on Broadway.
The show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays; 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays; and 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.

To July 24: This musical explores the unhappy life of American poet and writer Edgar Allan Poe.
The artist’s parents die at age 3, creating a gloomy and lonely childhood.
Though his literary talent allows him to make a name for himself, he is devastated by the death of his wife Virginia. All the while, his rival Griswold is trying to ruin his reputation out of jealousy.
The musical has a fantastic cast, with actor Michael Lee, K-pop star Kim Dong-wan and Choi Jae-lim playing the lead role. Lee has also performed on Broadway, starring in “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
The show starts at 8 p.m. on weekdays; 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays; and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

To Aug. 7: This musical recreates the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Even though he could have lived a successful and stable life in Salzburg, Austria, with the support of his father, he chose to instead pursue freedom and his musical dreams by leaving the city.
“Mozart!” premiered in 2010, and it returns with Cho Kyu-hyun from K-pop boy group Super Junior in the lead role.
The show starts at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Wednesdays; 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays; and 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The original creators of the French musical participated in the Korean production. The cast includes actors Hong Kwang-ho and Michael Lee, and singers K-Will and Chung Dong-ha.

This summer’s show marks 20 years since the musical debuted in Korea, with updated dance sequences and additional scenes.
Actors Song Il-gook and Lee Jong-hyuk will play the main role of Julian Marsh.

Charlotte Theater
To Oct. 3: People in Korea often go see horror movies to escape the hot weather, but one musical is trying to lure people into the theater instead.
“Sweeney Todd” tells the story of a barber who, with the help of accomplice Mrs. Lovett, attempts to get revenge on the fiendish Judge Turpin.
The musical gained popularity on Broadway after its world premiere in 1979 and has been remade over the years, winning multiple Tony Awards.
The star cast of the Korean production includes Jo Seung-woo and Yang Jun-mo as Todd, and Ock Joo-hyun and Jeon Mi-do as Mrs. Lovett.

July 12 to Aug. 28: The blockbuster Broadway musical “Wicked” is coming to Korea with an exciting cast.
Cha Ji-yeon and Park Hye-na will play Elphaba, while Jung Sun-ah and Ivy will play Glinda. The four divas will be sure to make the show extra special.
The musical gained a strong following after its premiere in Korea in 2012 and an 11-month run in 2013. This year, the musical is also going to Daegu for five weeks.

July 15 to Oct. 9: This musical is based on the notorious serial killer who was active in London’s Whitechapel area in the late 19th century.
Originally a Czech musical, it has been adapted for Korean audiences with new details and choreography.
The musical had its premiere in Korea in 2009 and made a splash in Japan in 2012 and 2013.
The upcoming show will star Ryu Jung-han, Um Ki-joon and Kai as Daniel, one of the lead roles.
