SK Telecom to reduce roaming charges overseas by 56 percent

SK Telecom announced Wednesday that it will reduce data roaming fees for customers who travel overseas starting today.

The telecommunication giant said it will reduce fees 56 percent from the 4.55-won per data unit to 2 won, excluding value-added tax (VAT).

A 20,000-won ($17.20) daily use limit will be implemented aside from the existing 100,000-won monthly maximum. Automated text messages about alternative payment systems and data blocks will be sent.

The company also is offering the T-Roaming LongPass service packages for users who travel abroad for an extended period. The “LongPass 7” allows daily use of 1 gigabyte for seven days, at 42,900 won; the “LongPass 30” provides 1.5 gigabytes for 30 days for 64,900.
