Vegetable prices spike

According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation, Wednesday’s average wholesale price of green lettuce was 53,600 won ($47.18) per 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds), a whopping 375 percent rise from last month and 232 percent rise compared to last year. Prices of red lettuce and perilla leaves, a popular Korean vegetable more commonly known as “sesame leaves,” also have skyrocketed 346 percent and 108 percent each from last month. [NEWSIS]
