[앵커브리핑] '짜장면'과 '송로버섯'…어느 딱한 해명

"짜장면" 혹은 "자장면" 발음과 표기가 전 국민적 관심사가 되었을 만큼 대표적 서민 음식으로 자리 잡은 짜장면. 지난 주말. 무려 19년 만에 다시 그 짜장면을 먹어봤다는 한 사람의 이야기가 전해졌습니다.
“Jjajangmyeon” or “Jajangmyeon?” This noodle dish topped with black soybean sauce has positioned itself as a favorite comfort food of the people which is why the spelling and pronunciation standard for this dish was of high interest for most. Last weekend, there was a story of a person who had jjajangmyeon for the first time in almost 19 years.

그는 악취가 진동하는 축사 쪽방에서 19년 동안 강제노역을 하다 탈출한 지적장애인. 시장통 허름한 중국집에서 짜장면을 맛본 그는 '세상에서 제일 맛있는 음식' 이라면서 어머니에게도 사드리고 싶다고 말했습니다. 그에겐 짜장면이 무엇과도 바꿀 수 없는 '고급음식' 이었을 테지요.
The person was an intellectually disabled man who was enslaved in a rancid small room on a livestock farm for 19 years. When he had a taste of jjajangmyeon at a humble Chinese restaurant in a market, he said it was “the most delicious food in the world” and expressed his desire to share the dish with his mother. To him, jjajangmyeon was a “luxurious food” that he would not trade anything for.

또 다른 고급음식 이야기도 전해졌습니다. 바로 송로버섯. 텔레비전 예능프로그램 속 이른바 아주 잘 나가는 연예인의 냉장고에나 등장하던 고급재료입니다.땅속의 다이아몬드… 프랑스 루이 14세가 즐겨먹은 음식… 그 버섯을 찾기 위해 특별히 훈련시킨 개나 돼지가 동원된다 하고, 쉐프들은 그 귀한 버섯을 기름에 담궈 향을 우려낸 뒤 고급음식에 한 두 방울씩 떨어뜨려 풍미를 더하기도 한다는군요. 물론 평범한 서민들이야 구경도 못해본 그 맛과 풍미가 궁금해서 인터넷 검색창을 두드리며 그저 상상만 해볼 따름이지만 말입니다.
There is another story of a luxurious food. It is called a truffle. It is a highly prized ingredient that appeared in a refrigerator of a popular celebrity on a television show. Truffle, the diamond of the kitchen and an ingredient that Louis XIV of France enjoyed. To find this gem, specially trained dogs or pigs had to be mobilized and chefs would soak this rare ingredient in oil and drop a couple of oil drops on luxurious food to add flavor. Of course, it is a taste and flavor that ordinary people would only be able to search the Internet and imagine how it tastes like.

송로버섯과 캐비어 샐러드, 샥스핀, 바닷가재, 한우갈비, 능성어 요리… 여당의 신임대표를 환대한 청와대의 밥상이 논란이 된 건 그 고급진 메뉴들 때문만은 아니었을 겁니다. 찔끔 누진제 인하로 여전히 에어컨을 상전처럼 모셔야 하는 사람들. 계속되는 실업난. 추경을 걱정해야 하는 궁핍한 나라 살림살이. 밥 한 끼 가지고 뭘 그러느냐 싶기도 하지만 그런 여러 가지 사정들이 묘하게도 겹쳐 떠오르니까 사람들은 좀 허탈했는지도 모르겠습니다. 게다가 지금은 밥 한 끼로 처벌이 운위되는 세상이 아니던가…
Truffle, caviar salad, shark’s fin, lobster, Korean beef ribs and Epinephelus fish; the controversy surrounding the dishes that were served at the Blue House reception to celebrate the new leadership of the Saenuri Party was probably not just because of the fancy menu. People still needing to treat air conditioners as a luxury even after slight reduction in electricity bill, the continuing unemployment, and a country where its citizens have to worry about the supplementary budget; some might think that it is petty to rage over a simple meal but seeing how a lot of issues intertwine with this, the people must have felt dejected. Also, we live in a world where one meal can get a person legally punished.

“It was only used in a small portion as an ingredient.” This was the Blue House’s response to the reception’s menu controversy. It seems pitiful to see the people browsing through the Blue House’s menu and the Blue House giving an explanation that the menu was nothing special.
