SK Telecom sketches out a vision of 5G networks

SK Telecom (SKT) published a report Friday that outlines the company’s vision, plans and prospects for future telecommunications networks, including 5G.

Titled ATSCALE White Paper, the document describes the company’s goals and architecture planned to be implemented in its future telecommunications networks. The outline of the network, its main functions and relevant technologies are described in detail in the paper.

The paper also contained cases and information SKT learned as a 30-year old network provider. Its intention was to create a cooperative ambiance among industry insiders, including equipment developers and ICT companies.

“Other than sending a message that SKT will continue to lead as a network provider in the age of 5G, we also wanted ATSCALE White Paper to serve as a bridge to connect diverse players in the country,” said Choi Jin-sung, Chief Technology Officer at SKT’s R&D Center.

This is not the first time SKT has released a report about future technology for telecommunication networks. In October 2014, the company published its first white paper on 5G, which contained its general vision and suggestions for 5G technologies. In October 2015, it released a more detailed white paper that presented 47 guidelines to follow for the establishment of a 5G network system.
