Orion’s Oh! Gamja hits sales milestone in record time

Orion’s potato chip brand, Oh! Gamja, has surpassed 200 billion won ($176 million) in sales in China this year and set a record for reaching the number in the shortest time span.

This is the second time Oh! Gamja has passed the milestone. In November 2015, Oh! Gamja became the first Korean snack brand to exceed annual sales of 200 billion won in the Chinese market. This year, the company also managed to do it two months earlier than last year.

According to Orion, the snack made 212 billion won by the end of September. Calculated in packages, this is equivalent to 550 million units, which means one out of three Chinese people bought the product.

On the reasons behind its success, Orion pointed to the release of flavored variations like honey and mango, which made up a quarter of sales.
