Coupang’s discounts target mothers of infants, toddlers

Social commerce company Coupang is targeting pregnant women and moms by holding a major discount event.

On Friday, Coupang announced it is holding the Coupang Kids Baby Fair, where it will offer some 2,000 baby and toddler products from 70 brands until Oct. 23. Items include diapers, baby foods and toys by major baby and toddler brands including Mamy Poko, Maeil Dairy, Lego, Pampers, Bebesup and Babience at discounts of up to 50 percent.

A 900 gram (31.7 ounces) container of instant baby food that can be served by heating it for 3 minutes is selling for 7,000 won ($6.17) while a 300 milliliter baby bottle that comes with straws is selling for 13,000 won.

Lego is offering a Duplo deluxe train set for 120,000 won while Fisher Price’s baby gym is selling for 48,000 won.

“We planned this festival to help mothers who have difficulties going shopping for various reasons, including children being too young,” said Lee Byung-hee, an official at Coupang’s baby department.
