The shameful state of the Park Geun-hye administration was caused by Choi Soon-sil, the president’s longtime friend at the center of an unprecedented abuse of power scandal in Korea./ 대통령의 오랜 친구인 최순실로 인한 박근혜 정부의 부끄러운 국정농단이라는 한국에서 전례 없는 권력남용 스캔들이 일어났다
But the responsibility for failing to check Choi’s unfettered influence-peddling should be borne by presidential secretaries as well as the ruling Saenuri Party./ 하지만 최순실의 무소불위의 영향력을 견제하지 못한 책임은 청와대 참모진뿐만 아니라 여당인 새누리당에도 있다
Following Choi’s appearance at the prosecutors’ office on Monday, all presidential aides involved in the scandal have left the Blue House./ 최순실이 월요일 검찰에 출두함에 따라 이 스캔들과 관련된 모든 청와대 참모들이 청와대를 떠났다

The pro-Park group, including Chairman Lee, has committed a serious crime of ignoring the president’s bizarre ways of administering state affairs over the last four years./ 이 대표를 포함한 친박 세력은 지난 4년 동안 박 대통령의 기이한 방법의 국정 행태를 방치한 심각한 죄를 범했다
The faction includes such heavyweight politicians as Suh Chung-won, a de facto leader of the faction, and Choi Kyung-hwan, former floor leader./ 친박세력에는 실질적인 리더이자 중진 정치인인 서청원 의원과 전 원내대표인 최경환 의원이 있다

Saenuri leaders should have isolated the president from Choi after her inauguration four years ago and blocked any attempts at power wielding by Choi./ 새누리당 지도자들은 4년 전 대통령 취임식 후부터 대통령을 최순실과 격리하고 최순실이 권력을 행사하지 못하도록 차단해야 했다
The pro-Park faction cannot avoid mounting criticism that they chose to close their eyes to the corruption scandal before becoming accomplices or colluders in the strange turn of events. / 친박세력은 사건이 이상하게 돌아가는 상황에서 공범이거나 방조자가 되기 이전에 부패 스캔들에만 눈이 멀어 있었다는 비난을 피할 길이 없다
The pro-Park forces must take political and moral responsibility for this crisis./ 친박세력은 이번 위기에서 정치적 도덕적 책임을 져야 한다/ We wonder if the party really feels any shame by now./ 새누리당이 정말로 창피하게 생각하는지 모르겠다
A ruling party is responsible for preventing the president from taking a wrong path./ 여당은 대통령이 잘못된 길로 가는 것을 막을 책임이 있다
Article 8 of the party’s constitution declares, “A party member, if he or she is elected president, must faithfully reflect party platforms.”/ 새누리당 당헌 8조는 “대통령에 당선된 당원은 당의 정강 정책을 충실히 국정에 반영해야 한다”고 되어 있다
As President Park reflected Choi’s personal ideas — instead of the party’s orientations — the pro-Park group must step aside./ 박 대통령이 당의 정강 정책 대신 최순실의 개인적인 아이디어를 반영했으니 친박세력은 당연히 물러나야 한다
The National Assembly faces tough challenges ahead, including the appointment of a special prosecutor, the establishment of a neutral cabinet and nomination of a new prime minister — all under a consensus between ruling and opposition camps./ 국회는 앞으로 여야 합의 아래 특별검사 지명, 중립내각 구성, 신임 총리 추천 등 많은 어려움에 직면하고 있다
In an emergency situation that may call for the president’s stepping down, the irresponsible politicians must back off./ 대통령이 하야해야 할지도 모르는 비상시국에서 무책임한 정치인은 물러나야 한다
