Shake Shack set to open 2nd branch in Seoul

New York-based burger franchise Shake Shack will open its second Korean branch in the affluent neighborhood of Cheongdam-dong in southern Seoul, the chain’s Korean operator SPC Group announced Monday.

The new branch will open next month on Dosan-daero, a major thoroughfare that runs through posh Gangnam District in southern Seoul, an area known for upscale and trendy restaurants, bars and galleries.

“Cheongdam-dong is where all the trendsetters go to enjoy fine dining,” an SPC spokesperson said. “We thought it was the right location to open the second Korean branch of Shake Shack, which offers high-quality food but also at reasonable prices.”

As with previous branches, Shake Shack has put up scaffolding with public art at its construction site next to the Cheongdam-dong CGV for the new branch.

SPC Group said it is looking into opening a third location in the northern part of Seoul. The group said it plans to have 25 branches in Korea by the end of 2025.

Shake Shack currently operates in 13 countries and opened its first Korean branch on bustling Gangnam-daero in July after signing an exclusive partnership with local bakery and cafe operator SPC Group in 2015. The company said the Gangnam branch enjoys 3,000 visitors every day on average.
