There’s a Korean saying about precariousness that compares it to a house built on sand.

“(All these stories about President Park Geun-hye) have been built up as a result of wild imaginations,” announced the Blue House.

청와대는 대통령이 직접 임명한 검찰총장. 그 검찰 조직에서 내놓은 모든 내용을 인정하지 않았고, 본래의 입장을 바꾸어 모든 수사에 임하지 않겠다는 엄포까지 내놓았습니다.
The Blue House denied all of the investigation findings from the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office led by the prosecutor general who was appointed by the president herself. President Park even refused to comply with the prosecution’s investigation, which is far different from what she said a few days ago.

“One of primary criminal suspects”
그러나 그 검찰은 '공소장에 담은 내용은 99% 입증할 수 있다'고 자신합니다. 공동정범이라는 단어까지 써가면서 말이죠.
The prosecutors are confident that they can prove 99 percent of what the written prosecution states. They even named President Park as one of the primary criminal suspects.

그 모든 혐의들은 사상누각이 아니라 견고함으로 뭉쳐져 있다는 자신감의 표현이겠지요.
This is the expression of prosecutors’ confidence in their investigation results which is built on hard evidence, and not wild imaginations, which are built on a pile of sand.

하나 더 얹어 놓자면 검찰은 핵심이랄 수 있는 뇌물죄 적용 가능성까지 언급했습니다.
In addition, the prosecutors’ office also mentioned the possibility of indicting President Park for bribery, which is the most serious criminal charge the prosecutors are reviewing against the president.

그런 의미에서 본다면 모래위에 지은 집에 있는 사람은 따로 있는지도 모르겠습니다.

그러나 더 따지고 보면… 정작 사상누각에 있는 것은 검찰이나 대통령이라는 국가시스템의 한 부분뿐만이 아니라 국가시스템 그 자체가 아닌가…
Or maybe it’s not just the president or the prosecutors, but the national system itself that stands on a pile of sand.

즉 선출된 권력이 선출되지 않은 비선조직과 손을 잡고 우리가 상상조차 할 수 없었던 그 모든 분야에서 불법과 탈법의혹을 자초한 세상.
After all, the president had an unofficial inner circle meddling in all sorts of state affairs, which led to the suspicions of illegal acts.

우리가 발 딛고 있는 이곳. 부실하지만 그래도 견딜 만하다고 믿어왔던 우리의 시스템은 실은 매우 위태한 허술함으로 이뤄져 있었다는 것.
Despite its weakness, we had thought that our system was bearable, but in reality, it was as risky as it could be.

그래서 우리 모두가 우리의 의지와는 상관없이, 아니 우리의 의지와는 반대로 사상누각에서 살아오고 있었다는 것.
Regardless of our willingness, no, opposed to our willingness, we have been living in a house built on a pile of sand.

오늘도 계속되고 있는 내용들은 누군가가 사상누각이라 칭했던 그 모든 혐의들을 더욱 단단한 바위처럼 만들어가고 있는 중입니다.
The Blue House said the investigation results were sitting on a pile of sand, but the continuous revelations of corruption are turning that pile into a hard rock.

그래서 우리는 딜레마에 빠지게 되는 것은 아닌가…
This may even put us into crisis.
대통령을 비롯한 집권 세력의 혐의와 의혹이 모래가 아닌 바위로 변해갈수록 우리가 발 딛고 있는 민주주의라는 시스템은 마치 모래처럼 허약해져 있었다는 것을 확인해야 하는 딜레마.
As suspicions surrounding the president and the governing power are hardening, we are put into the dilemma of having to confirm that our democracy was as weak as sand.
