[앵커브리핑] What broke the Tacoma Bridge down?

This is today’s anchor briefing.

On Nov. 7, 1940, the Tacoma Bridge in Washington, D.C. collapsed only four months after its completion.

The bridge was torn down by non-stop wind.

More and more, the bridge shuddered in the wind. When the bridge could no longer stand the wind’s strength, it came down.

This is called “ resonance.”

According to specialists, small vibrations formed by the wind gather to create an enormous force.

They say the largest number of people gathered at the rally last Saturday, reaching 2.32 million, and not one person was taken to the police station. This was a scene created on a winter day in 2016 by the citizens, not pro-North Koreans, unpatriotic people or rioters.

The atmosphere in Gwanghwamun Square was lively, cultured, pure and civil, not dark.

Those who view these people as politically motivated, assert that they’re not there voluntarily, or degrade them as being manipulated are the ones who are dark, impolite and crafty.

They’re trying to understand the rallies with old thoughts, strategies, and calculations. This is similar to the civil engineers who built the Tacoma Bridge, who failed to foresee the resonance of the bridge.

If what they want is to unify the conservatives through these old thoughts and ignite conflict between the conservatives and progressives, then that is truly unfortunate.

The designer of the Tacoma Bridge only calculated the strength of the wind, not its duration.

But the wind continuously blew, and that’s what triggered resonance, which brought the bridge down.

The wind that the citizens are creating is already reaching its second month.

It was Bob Dylan, who I have quoted before, who said, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.”

That is all for today’s anchor briefing.
