Salzburg tops Rapid Wien 3-2 with goal by Hwang

Hwang Hee-chan, a forward for Red Bull Salzburg, scored his ninth goal of the season on Sunday during the club’s 3-2 win over SK Rapid Wien in Austria’s top football league.

With Salzburg trailing 1-0, Hwang scored an equalizer against Rapid Wien in first-half stoppage time at Allianz Stadium in Vienna. It was Hwang’s ninth goal of the season in all competitions and his first Austrian Bundesliga goal since Aug. 20, when he scored against SKN St. Polten. The 21-year-old now has four goals in eight league matches.

Hwang, who joined the Austrian club in December 2014, also scored a goal in Salzburg’s 3-0 win over Vitoria SC in the UEFA Europa League match on Thursday. The Korean started as a lone striker against Rapid Wien and landed the goal following a pass from Andreas Ulmer.

Salzburg made the score 3-1 after goals from Ulmer and Reinhold Yabo in the early second half. They allowed a goal in the 76th minute but were able to hold out to collect a 3-2 win in the end.

The victory has allowed Salzburg to top the league standings with 37 points from 11 wins, four draws and one loss, two points above Sturm Graz.

PyeongChang collects over W1 trillion in sponsorships

Domestic sponsorships for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games have surpassed 1 trillion won ($920 million), the Olympic organizing committee said Monday.

Sponsorship deals signed by private and public corporations in Korea have reached 1.0092 trillion won, 7.6 percent more than its original target of 940 billion won, according to the PyeongChang Organizing Committee. The group said 66 businesses, including the country’s top conglomerates like Samsung and Hyundai Motor, have become partners for the games, a number which exceeds that of the three previous Winter Games.

The 2014 Sochi Winter Games had 44 local supporters, while the 2010 Vancouver Games secured 56 partnerships and the 2006 Torino Games inked 34 deals, according to the organizing committee.
