The behind-the-scenes efforts and hard work by production crews in popular culture will be recognized at an official award ceremony, the culture ministry said Monday.
“The Popular Culture and Arts Staff Awards,” will be handed out to crew members working on set whose contributions to making great cultural content are deemed indispensable, according to the organizers - the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency.
All together, 16 people in the fields of broadcasting, film, music and musicals will be chosen for the awards and receive a prize of up to 3 million won ($2,800) each.
The ministry said the goal is to acknowledge their hard work and raise public awareness about the need to improve their harsh working conditions, notorious for long working hours and low wages.
