KBS staff returns to work on shows, Olympics

Members of the KBS labor union responsible for entertainment programs and dramas will cross the picket lines on Jan. 1 to begin working on their programs before the national broadcaster resumes its normal programming. The beloved variety program “2 Days & 1 Night” will air a special episode celebrating their 10th anniversary on Sunday.

The labor union revealed on Friday through a statement that, “The decision was made to first protect the rights and the benefits of the audience and to build a better future of the company.”

The statement adds, “because the dismissal of Koh Dae-young, the chief of the company, has now become clear, this is the time to prepare for normalization little by little.”

Together with “2 Days & 1 Night,” workers that are in charge of sports will also begin preparing for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.

The union has been on strike since early September, demanding better labor practices and independent news coverage.
