State-run KDI moves up on ranking of world think tanks

The Korea Development Institute, a state-run think tank, said Tuesday it has been ranked 18th in an international survey of think tanks around the globe, a dramatic rise from its previous 44th spot.

The survey was conducted by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania. It ranked fifth in the global top 10 of non-U.S. think tanks and maintained its top spot as the leading research institute in Asia for the fifth consecutive year.

The KDI also ranked first in the “Top International Development Think Tanks” category, surpassing the Brookings Institution and Chatham House. Its ranking significantly rose in three other categories: best managed, outstanding policy-oriented research programs and domestic economic policy. Yonhap
