Questions raised over future of MBC’s ‘Infinite Challenge’

Rumors abound on the future of MBC variety show “Infinite Challenge,” with a local news outlet reporting that producer Kim Tae-ho may be stepping down from the 13-year-old show.

The news outlet reported Sunday afternoon that Kim will be stepping down at the end of February, with producer Choi Haeng-ho of music program “Show! Champion” taking his place after a series of major makeovers inside MBC starting late March.

But according to an official statement by members of “Infinite Challenge,” nothing has been decided yet and everything is just a possibility. “Ahead of the spring reformation in March, we’re discussing many directions we could go in with ‘Infinite Challenge,’” explained the statement.

The different possibilities for the show include either having a break for a certain period of time and then coming back with a new season - the show has continued without a break since it first aired on April 23, 2005, except for a temporary interruption due to a strike late last year - or bring in another producer to take Kim’s place.

According to the statement, the production crew had been complaining of chronic fatigue as the show has continued without a single break, including Kim.

The statement did not, however, explain what could be happening, saying only, “The members and crew are in talks with the company.”
